July 3rd we hiked to Lower Falls in White Oak Canyon and had a blast. The weather was great. I was so impressed with Oliver; he hiked (holding our hands) most of the way. Kara, Jason’s sister, came all the way from Manhattan to visit for the weekend. We loved having her here so much. She took almost every photo in the this and the next few posts (thanks kare!) Those who know me know I’ve done a lot of hiking and backpacking and this is one of the prettiest waterfalls and forests I’ve ever seen.

Abby’s Blessing
Jason gave Abby her baby blessing March 29th and it was beautiful! We had family there too which made it extra special (thanks for making the trip guys!) Afterwards, she was tired (probably because she yelled through the whole thing- more on that later) so we took pictures a couple weeks later when she was happy and the cherry tree out back had bloomed. I love this tree and want to plant one like it in my own yard someday (6 or more years still from now), but I don’t think it will ever get as big as this one in my lifetime.
Back to the blessing. Abby is hilarious- she stopped crying the moment Jas said amen and held her up. Everyone, including me, had to chuckle. It didn’t bother me because 4 minutes of crying in church is nothing compared to 35 minutes of crying in DC traffic alone. Advice to those interested though, hold the pumpkin up-right and not laying down while you bless them. Some, like Nabby, don’t like their being on their backs.
Photos of little Nabby
At the Doctor’s office today Abby weighed 14 lbs 4 ounces. She loves to eat like her mom! She’s 25 3/4 inches long.

Making it official
Jason had a lot of competition for a spot at the Ross School of Business. Between 500 and 1000 people applied for the PhD finance program at Michigan this year (more than other years due to the poor job market) and only 3 were accepted. Way to go Jas! He was accepted at Boston College, U of Illinois, and U of North Carolina too. It was a hard choice. I’m so proud of him. Here he is signing his acceptance letter to mail in.
Can you believe how cute she is?

A new pet?
Oliver fell in love with this scottish terrier at the FDR memorial next to the tidal basin. I wonder what Roosevelt named him. I think Oliver probably named him something because he jabbered with a serious look on his face for nearly 5 minutes. Pat pat…jabber jabber…pat pat..pat jabber jabber jabber.
A lady walked by with her daughter and offered to take our photo. That was nice. That’s FDR’s food on the right. I love taking the jogging stroller (more walking, less jogging these days) to the tidal basin. It’s a long walk and really pretty. This month I’ve seen a record low in tourists (like 5) and a record high in low-flying helicopters (8 I think) around the Jefferson. I like the giant olive green ones with the two propellers (big one in front and small one in back). They’re SO huge.
Oliver Starts “School”
Oliver, in his own way, started school last week. First he rode the bus for the better part of an hour. A trip made all the better with the fact that he was the sole driver with (count ’em) TWO steering wheels! Buckets of fun. And I’m afraid Jason was sweating buckets in that sun. It was hot.
Oli’s chosen major turned out to be RAINBOW DOLPHIN RIDING!! Don’t be fooled by his short legs that don’t reach the stirrups. He rocks away like a pro.
This is a picture of the park we were at. It’s called Cemyjontri, it’s free, it’s HUGE, and it ranks pretty high on Oliver’s list of cool places. It has a walk through maze and a giant swing shaped like a ship and kazillions of steering wheels everywhere. I like it, but it’s a little far to drive (15 min) and when it’s nice out, it’s pretty crowded.
